RF-Control

YarCom® Inc. developed RF-Control as a suite of MATLAB and SIMULINK modules to automate the process of measuring and identifying noise and interference and quantifying spectrum occupancy.

For radio noise and interference measurements, RF-Control implements techniques or methods defined in these standards:

  • ITU-R P.372, Radio Noise
  • ITU-R SM.1753, Method for Measurements of Radio Noise
  • ITU-R SM.182, Automatic monitoring of occupancy of the radio-frequency spectrum
  • ITU-R P.2089, Analysis of Radio Noise Data
  • ITU 23.HDB, Spectrum Monitoring Handbook
  • ITU-R F339, Bandwidth, signal-to-noise ratios, and fading allowances in HF fixed and land mobile radiocommunication systems
  • ITU-R SM.1134-1, Intermodulation interference calculations in the land-mobile service
  • ANSI/IEEE  C63.4-2009, Methods of Measurement of Radio-Noise Emissions from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz
Additionally, RF-Control records measurement information in a new XML format that builds upon content defined in ITU-R SM.1809, Standard data exchange format for frequency band registrations and measurements at monitoring stations.

RF-Control utilizes a variety of sensors and ancillary devices, directly or remotely connected, such as:
  • Software Defined Radios (SDR) including Flex-Radio 6x00 family, Microtelecom Perseus, WiNRADiO Excalibur, TenTec RX-400, National Instrument USRP, RF-Space SDR-14
  • Spectrum Analyzers, including Agilent 440xB, N9340A/B; Rohde & Schwarz FSH-3/6 and FSH-4/8
  • Vector Signal Analyzers, including National Instruments PXI-5660 and PXI-5661
  • RF Switches, including Agilent 34970A, 34980A; National Instruments  PXI-2593, PXI-2546; Elad AMS-33, ASA-42; and SSB ACS-2004
RF-Control includes a time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) geo-positioning system to assist in locating the noise and interference source.
